Although it is a small village, Balos has five different traditional taverns where you can enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner. If you are fond of cooking and you would prefer to prepare your own meals, every morning the baker and the grocer of the nearby village come by and you can be provided with fresh baked bread as well as fresh fruit and vegetables. There is also a small convenient store for things you might need.

At the west side of Balos there is the mountain Kerkis, the first highest mountain in Samos, altitude 1433m. If you are keen in hiking, the mountain has special routes.

At the east side of Balos you can see the small island of Samiopoula which is habited by an old family from Samos for many generations. You can visit it with a tour boat from the nearby village of Marathokampos.
